Extrusion
A screw melts the granulate, a circular die extrudes it into a tube, and air inflates it into a bubble. Take-off roller speed sets the thickness.

Extrusion is the first step in production - film is made from granulate.
What the department does
A screw melts the polyethylene granulate, a circular die extrudes it into a tube, and air inflates it into a bubble. The speed of the take-off rollers sets the final film thickness. On our Reifenhäuser line we produce LDPE film with a thickness of 20 to 200 µm (40 to 200 µm from recyclate) and HDPE film with a thickness of 13 to 100 µm, both as tubing, half-tube, or flat.
Link to products
The extruded film goes on to printing, converting into bags and sacks, or is supplied directly as LDPE and HDPE film. Film waste from extrusion goes back into regranulation.
